BVE versus OpenBVE

True...well we always got BVE4 and OpenBVE backing us up lol

GoYankees:

BVE 4 is better because i can actually play with smooth FPS... OpenBVE uses OpenGL... which is slower than DirectX and i get around 8 FPS average... however if OpenBVE used DirectX i would probrably enjoy it a lot more

You realize that that is not suppose to happen. On most computers, openBVE should technically run faster than BVE2 or BVE4.
__________

I support openBVE all the way. Like what others have said before, openBVE is certainly welcoming in eye-candy, but you don't need to use it. There is open source coding which means that animated passengers, and all of those goods can be implemented if Michelle finds out how to do it efficiently.

Keep in mind that openBVE is the future. Not just in terms of development, but it is the future itself. Vista and Windows 7 and whatever bs Microsoft wants to call their next product will cause XP and variations of it to become obsolete. Do you still want to code in BVE2 if the whole community cannot run it the way it should look and run? Change is good and it should and will happen, even if it takes time. We certainly don't have to create sexy ass content that rivals payware Trainz and MSTS content such as the Birmingham X City route that is developing right now, but I would like to see timers where they should be placed and primitive animation such as moving trains.

Is it a necessity? No. But developing error-less routes in openBVE should be.

Keep in mind that nobody will stay on Windows XP forever and the switch will occur sooner or later.

You gotta remember i have a integrated card that mostly supports DX 10 cuz it was designed for Vista and Aero.... and i checked on Everest Ultimate and it says my card only supports the very old version of OpenGL

Phantom909:

OK, here is my definitive take on OpenBVE

Mr Takashi Kojima (mackoy) gave the world a great Train Sim. He charged nothing, and encouraged people from all over the world to develop content for it . It has given me a lot great times, and also pushed me into learning how to code. Someone like me who didn`t have a computer back in HS. Mr. Kojima developed BVE as a "cabview simulator" only. IMO, "eye candy" is not watching an animated train drive by on a simulator, "eye candy" is some hot babe in a bikini, but whatever floats you guys boats.  In that respect, OpenBVE basically disrespects the wishes of Mr Kojima.

Now comes the name. Mr Kojima has stated that Michelle never asked nor received permission from him to use the name BVE. It doesn`t matter who named it, and when it was named, Michelle has had plenty of time to rename it. By her refusing to do so, that shows a tremendous amount of disrespect. I personally will NEVER develop anything for OpenBVE until 2 things occur. First, Michelle changes the name, and two, she offers an apology to Mr Kojima, and he accepts. This is what makes me laugh, the British develpers are the biggest proponents of the BVE developer Guidlines. Yet, IMO, them developing for a program that has blatantly stolen the name BVE, is the height of hypocrasy. And even here, and I have stated this before, anybody who develops anything for OpenBVE has absolutelly no right to complain if anything of their`s is stolen. You can`t have it both ways.

As coney mentioned before, Michelle wanted me to "dumb down" my routes. I refused by sayimg, Why doesn`t she improve her program. That`s strike 3 in my book

Now Kevin mentioned that I agreed to keep the OpenBVE section opened, If you guys want to use it, that`s fine, you have that right, But until Michelle rights her wrongs, I will refuse my routes and objects to be used in  any OpenBVE exclusive route. And yes, I understand that things will change, and no matter what the poster who has taken 3 years on a route that he still hasn`t finished , is upset that BVE5 is not out yet. I am old school, I have loyalty, I will respect Mr Kojima`s wishes, and not fall prey to the people who are selfish with their, "what`s in it for me" attitude/ I have spoken
