BVE versus OpenBVE

Once and for all lol the final showdown....which BVE is better...you explain why..
Rules:
-Give clear valid reasons not just..."because its cool"
-keep any flame wars to a minimum and keep personal insults out of this
Ok let's get it on

Personally I prefer regular BVE to OpenBVE because that's what we were "brought up on" and since the main developing style of BVEStation is for BVE2 and 4...I'm not gonna change...I do admit from time to time I play openBVE to test out routes....and I will admit it's a clever program and a sigh of relief to Vista and other Windows usersbut still I don't see anything to obsess over when it comes to it.

error46146:

BVE2 is good too but out of all I like Open BVE the best. BVE is pretty much no longer in active development besides those occasional teasers of BVE5 which god knows when will ever come out..

On top of that OpenBVE is cross-platform, is open source and works with much more hardware than BVE not to mention more efficient and compatible therefore reaching a much wider audience and its open-source flexibility allows developers to change and tailor openbve for their specific needs

In other words-BVE is the past, OpenBVE is the Future.

BVE routes are still in active development though...you just said Joe would rather run himself over than develop for it

it still sucks....if it's so great why do we have to change our routes to meet her bullshit standards lol...I mean Ill develop for openBVE meaning.....if I code it in rw and it works in openBVE...there you go...if I open it and i get the black screen...your SOL....but as far as making the route specifically for openBVE..fuck outta here...besides that shit runs routes slower than regular BVE does...the only thing I like is the shorter loading time

When it can run our routes without a billion errors...because it has to be so anal about how our stuff is coded, when our stuff has been good for the 10 years since the first BVE came out...and people hop off openBVEs dick because it has exterior views, and stop treating it like we won't get anywhere without it...maybe I'll consider it....I play BVE for the cabview simulation...not just to open and close doors 10,000 times....BVE was meant to be a cabview sim not a conductor simulator or a simulator from the perspective of someone on the platform....or if not that...when our stuff can get on the level of the stuff I see over in England for openBVE I'll consider shit then

Openbve, like error said its the future. You get all types of views. BVE is abandoned and old-fashioned

Lets look at the previous debates about this issue.  I will summarize each topic.

http://www.bvestation.com/forums/index.bves.topic=2578.0 (What has OpenBVE become?)
So this topic shows off some eye candy for OpenBVE.  And yes it has become more than a cab view simulator, but it is definitely for people who want eye candy.  Feature is there whether you want to use it or not, you dont have to use it.

http://www.bvestation.com/forums/index.bves.topic=3003.0 (Decline of BVE)
OpenBVE opens the doors to other developers to come in and attempt to develop content for the program.  It fosters development of ideas, and creations of new developers.  But glory is definitely taken from the original BVE program.

http://www.bvestation.com/forums/index.bves.topic=2907.0 (Should we keep the OpenBVE section?)
Even Joe agrees we should keep it Open.  Newbies would rather post for help here as it gives them the impression of a dedicated section for OpenBVE.

BVE 2 and 4 is reaching its limits, OpenBVE opens the valve for a new flood and that is healthy for the community.  We're BVE fans, not a religious sect worshiping mackoy.  Agreeing to his ideals and things like that.  For our friends across the water, they've made transitions to the new software, and have had good success with it, and of course the cross-platform compatibility allows BVE or OpenBVE per say to be exposed to other places where it couldn't have had before, which again opens up the community and allowing it to grow.

In terms of work however, there's little work for us to do, but if we want to add a feature now, its possible.  The option is there but it doesn't have to be used.  I doubt all of you take full 100% advantage of your super-powered computers, its rare, a regular home user has no use for a super-powered computer, other than to play games with.  In relation thats what OpenBVE is, a high powered intel chip that we haven't used to its full capacity yet, since our old chips already reached their limits.

What about us updating?  Well we are, albeit at a snails pace.  My opinion on creating things that pushes limits, thats how creativity, art and technology is created and thats how society advances.  No limits on creativity and ideas.  This doesn't mean I support going around and modifying stuff without permission, thats not a good idea, why because doing that will have that negative effect in that you discourage the advancement of this material.  So we ask that you support the developers, not through money or anything like that but just through acknowledging their work and respecting their wishes in terms of what you can do with the content.

BVE 2 and 4 are still great software, but for the people who are "unfortunate", we have no choice but to use OpenBVE.  Exclusive content can be a good thing, but again there comes the question that your purposely not allowing the advancement of a certain technology, or the reversal of technology for the fact of that matter.

And for those of you who dont want change, then you dont belong on BVEStation, cause thats what we are all about.  Advancement, and creation.  There's b-v-e.info for those of you who would like to stay in the past.  A little nostalgia is great, but there wouldn't be a point of BVEStation if it wasn't for these principles.

See you guys who think OpenBVE sucks because it doesn't run or whatever, update your computers to the latest drivers, and find out why it doesn't work.  Stop worshiping BVE as if it were a religion.  I'm not an atheist but I do agree to some extent that religion does play a factor in limiting potential of people.  BVE is a cab view simulator, OpenBVE is something more.  Remeber OpenBVE is simply a project name, which everybody took as the title because the bitch wasn't given time to rename it.
