BVE versus OpenBVE

2 Train Master:

I voted 4 Openbve.I say Openbve is better because like many have said before BVE2 is a Cab View Simulatior. Now about that cab view its a still mode(meaning you can look left, right etc).In Openbve it's 3D you can actually see the other side of the cab,you can actually look all around with no problem. But in the real world as a T\O they just don't sit there behinds down and look in one direction for the whole trip they look around n stuff. Also Openbve it's animated(doors,LED signs\LCD) I know you can't see animated things in the cab but it would be nice to relax or something and let ATS take over. Also Openbve has ATC or ATS(Automatic Train Control \ System) lets say if your in a bve session(multi for example and u need2 use the restroom, you can actually pause where your at or better yet turn on ATC which is awesome,I'm not sure BVE2 features that. But although I play both BVE2 & Openbve there both fun but Openbve has pretrain*meaning u can see the other train ahead of you that actually moves which I find awesome.Openbve you get2 open and close the doors manually unlike bve2 u can only close em but both are great and I like em both.

GoYankees:

Yeah but with just looking at the exteriors its almost impossible to drive the train... so openbve is more of a watching sim

But that flexibility is there to switch between cab and interior view. If you don't want to look inside the train, then don't and just drive the route in Cab View. That's what's good in open, the flexibility.

OpenBVE technically wasn't meant to be a watching sim, but it does have different goals compared to BVE.  Supposedly aiming for realism, although it hasn't quite achieved it yet.  If anything OpenBVE is simply a BVE'd MSTS or something.  Its mostly about features, and options, if you want to use em, you use it, otherwise ignore it.  Just like the AI, a feature in OpenBVE, but I seldom use, the odd thing is, why isn't anyone complaining about that.  OpenBVE was chosen as a name only for its connection that it runs BVE routes.  There was a proposal to get the name changed, but community votes called for it to be called OpenBVE, which is somewhat sad, but thats what happens with democracy.  The licensing that OpenBVE was put under also prohibits it from using DirectX, so if your video card has problems with OpenGL, thats not OpenBVE's fault.

Bugs are caused by the user having incompatible devices, bad or old drivers, or incorrectly placing files, like coney did *cough*.

I know OpenBVE doesn't feel like BVE which is something I dont like and it really should've been fixed, to increase the feel.  But again OpenBVE's goals are different compared to BVE.  I will say one thing, if you guys want OpenBVE to change, problems, bugs, name issues, I would suggest we stop bitching here, and take it to where it resides.  The official OpenBVE forum because there is no point in debating over it, its inevitable that you will have developers developing for it, and preaching will not stop that, and BVEStation will not be brainwashing people that OpenBVE is better either.  I've seen this debate hundreds of times, yet nothing was done about it.

I'll let the debate continue however, because everyone has their opinions and I dont mind hearing them cause it is interesting to see, but to let everyone know, BVEStation aims to be a general BVE site, and anything that reads BVE's files will be attempted to be covered.  As much as I try to make BVEStation unbiased, there is no denying that OpenBVE has more features than BVE to simply put. If you actually have an unbiased opinion however, I would gladly read it, and please feel free to post it here.

On other note, BVEStation v5 will also clear up the controversy with our logo, since the B in BVEStation is the logo of BVE 2.  BVEStation v5 will incorporate all 3 logos, in a somewhat symmetrical fashion, so a little imagination of what it will be like for those of you dying to know what it may look like.
