Windows 7 and AMD processor

Dual Core means two processors strapped together to do one or multiple tasks.
Core 2 Duo/Trio/Quad means two/three/four separate processors cunning their own processes and/or using said amounts of RAM. Using Task Manager will help you figure out which one you have.

You can run BVE on an AMD processor. My Gateway NV has an AMD Athlon II and runs great. However that is for OpenBVE. Since you have an ATI graphics card, the DLL trick will not work, because my NV has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250, and the DLL's are denied acceptance into the registry. It would commonly work on with Intel Integrated Graphics.

I would suggest OpenBVE until another patch is issued. We are currently upping the compatibility of our routes, so you will not lose out on anything.

Many programs don't even take advantage of dual core processors let alone quad core processors. Quad core processors often only make a noticeable difference in operating system operations.
The idea that dual core is old is a completely false statement made up by people who don't understand computers who go out and buy whatever the best buy ads show. And I'm not defending myself or anything, because I'm posting on a computer with an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5GHZ.

I'm not arguing with you or anything, but in terms of 3D graphics in games, Quad Core is usually a better option, but I guess BVE isn't what I call "intensive graphics like GTA IV or DiRT 2" so it shouldn't be too big of a problem.

openBVE might work on a ATI integrated, I never used those only a Intel Integrated, but I never really got playable FPS on openBVE for my dual core + integrated graphics + 2GB RAM, so you could try it, and hope it works

openBVE and definitely BVE2 and BVE4 don't have support for quad threading let alone dual threading.

I think I'll return the Dell, and find a nice refurb unit with XP.  I want to stick with BVE 4 for my UK routes.
Post Merge: August 29, 2010, 08:15:23 PMSo, what would be my minimum requirements (or best recommendations) to have a great experience with BVE4?

So yea.... BVE 4 wouldn't work on Windows 7, your best bet is openBVE
