@error, To my knowledge, the history of railroads originated from Europe and Asia and they've pioneered the railroad system rather America.  We just built the first elevated railroad, to be honest.

Other then that, 302mph is amazing.

--
while the technology originated in europe and asia, a lot of the basic concepts of modern railroading originated in the US. Just look at the US rail freight industry, and how other countries (notably Australia) have tried to emulate it.

America may have pioneered rail travel, but today it is lagging far far behind from other countries especially in Asia and Europe due to public transport hating right wing nuts in Washington who refuse to get any funding or work done for public transit.

--
Because those same right wing nuts proposed extending the 7 to Secaucus.

Anyway, Amtrak just proposed upgrading its high speed rail network, which was all supposed to fall into terms with the ARC tunnel project. They're still going about their plans to upgrade the network with or without ARC. I guess you wouldn't realize it was being proposed because the government is always throwing large numbers at us. *cough* somewhere around 180 Billion *cough* Why should America compete in an industry that it pioneered? If we hadn't, then who would be beating us? No one.

America is one of those countries that sets the standard, and then sits back to watch others benefit over it. It's like when you retire, and let your children take over for you. We honestly don't need to do a thing except worry about the problems we're facing.

Fan Railer:

The only reason this works in China and not here is because here in the "United" States of America, we have way too many influencing voices in politics that impeed progress because of their narrow minded, short sighted, idiotic interpretation of how this country should run and what is "best for the people." They're more focused on the rediculous amount of money they're getting for their "public service." Honestly, what a waste of money and life that could be put to good use making society better than quarreling over something that shouldn't even be an issue to quarrel over......

Dont forget the NIMBY's.

302 miles... Even faster than Acela by Amtrak, the U.S. fastest railway system.
