error46146:

As you know, the MTA is doing various cuts and fare increases with their Unlimited ride metrocards.

http://www.ny1.com/content/news_beats/transit/128650/mta-sets-grace-periods-for-metrocards

Here are the grace periods which old unlimited metrocards purchased before the cuts/fare increase may be used before:

1 DAY FUN PASS - January 10th
WEEKLY CARD - January 16th
14 DAY CARD - January 23rd
MONTHLY - February 8th
Metrocards will expire and become invalidated after these dates.

The 1-day fun pass and 14-day card will no longer be sold. The price of a Weekly card will be $29 and a monthly card will be $104. These and other fare changes will take place December 30th (the price of a Single ride ticket will jump to 2.50), so buy your metrocards BEFORE the increase (on the 29th) to take advantage of the low fares.

But then we still would have to add an extra 50 cents so what difference does it makes.Buy a $4.50 card(2 fares) and when it swipes its minus $2.50=$2

BStyles:

If you buy a card before the fare increase, it will remain as a 2.25 fare.
