When your asking about OpenBVE Compatibility.

ipaclansite:

I have noticed many people asking about whether certain things are OpenBVE Compatible, so I'll provide a clear cut definition of what it means to ask it here.

In terms of routes:
Incompatible means the route simply fails to load (mostly its due to the users fault with missing files but) because of incorrect format, or the route shows a black screen, with a bunch of signals.  This is very rare, but I have encountered it.  Which routes exactly I dont remember.

OpenBVE Capable means the route runs in OpenBVE, of course not without error.  These errors most of the time can be ignored and the route is still playable on OpenBVE.  A few graphical glitches may also be present, but dont impede the quality while running the route.  (A good 85-90% of the routes on BVEStation are OpenBVE Capable)

OpenBVE Compatible means the route runs in OpenBVE, without error (or very few errors, less than 10 or around there).  Visuals are stamped out and fixed completely.  OpenBVE's features are taken into advantage including a configured working pretrain, and new signalling code formats.  (Currently no route on BVEStation for download is OpenBVE Compatible)

In terms of trains (there are MORE problems with trains so keep that in mind):

Incompatible means the train simply fails to load, or loads but shows no panel, and has errors.  The R62 (or one of them I dont remember) is incompatible because the panel fails to load, and the train handles incorrectly compared to its BVE counterpart.

OpenBVE Capable means the train works on OpenBVE, and everything is fine, there may be an error or few that can be ignored, but you can see the panel, and the train handles in a way similar to its BVE counterpart.  Sounds will also be similar, or slightly off depending on the version it was previously compatible with.  (I would say 60-75% of our trains fall under here.)

OpenBVE Compatible means the train works on OpenBVE, built on OpenBVE's train editor platform, and takes advantage of its features, including exterior/interior external views, and/or 3d cabs, plugins and things like that.  (Perhaps only 20% of the trains we have fall under this category)

Most routes will fall under the OpenBVE Capable category.  There aren't many trains that are OpenBVE Compatible.

So when you are asking about OpenBVE Compatibility make sure you know which one you are asking.  Thanks!
