after some trial and error with the tutorials on the web on how to get bve on vista, ive found a way, at least it worked for me, and why im posting this is to see if others can make it work

remember i have 64 bit windows vista not 32 it might work for 32 i dont know i dont have it, this is similar to other tutorials here but modified

steps

1. turn off windows user account control
2.download these 3 dll files and save them to your desktop

http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-.../download.html

http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-.../download.html

http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-.../download.html

3. move them to your windows main file area most likely c: windows\syswow64 (for 64 bit vista) and for 32 bit is c: windows\system32 copy them from the desktop into the folders

4.  right click on each of the dll files you just moved and go to properties, at the bottom right you should see a box that says unblock, click that, vista blocks it since it came from an unknown source, dont worry the downloads are safe tho

5. now on the start menu, click all programs, then accessories then right click command prompt and run as administrator

6. for 32 bit vista type in, click enter after each sentence, dont actually type enter thats just there to remind you

cd c:\windows\system32 (enter)
regsvr32 dx7vb.dll  (enter)
regsvr32 dx8vb.dll   (enter)
exit (enter)

then always run bve as administrator

7. for windows vista 64 bit

type in

cd c:\windows\syswow64 <enter>
regsvr32 dx7vb.dll    <enter>
regsvr32 dx8vb.dll      <enter>
exit          <enter>

always run bve as administrator

8. reinstall bve
---------------------------------------------

bve should now work, if you still have problems, make sure that the dll file has the same spelling as told to type and no space marks between the name and .dll

run both command prompt as admin and bve as admin

make sure you have full administrative access on your computer before doing this

-------------------------------------------------------

hope fully this works, leave comments

reinstall bve after you do this

Kamakazi:

Make sure you run 'cmd' as an administrator or you won't be able to register your .dll's. In Addition, you don't need to run BVE as an administrator. It works fine with me.

I've done this plenty of times and it works fine. (With the right hardware, and a couple of slutters) This also works on Windows 7.

GoYankees:

you dont need to uninstall BVE and the 3 links just go to the homepage.  i have a little package i made here with all 3 of the needed dllsQuote from: Gang Green on April 11, 2009, 01:30:56 AM

No need to disable UAC.  If this works on your system, you can also use Track Viewer.

Once again its the ATI based cards that work, and not a nVidia one.
